Safety Programme Management – New Plasterboard Plant

New Machine Risk Assessment / Health and Safety by Design

For new factories and plants, it can be beneficial to engage with Safety Engineers prior to the new build process, to ensure you adopt a Health and Safety by Design approach, in line with the latest safeguarding concepts and safety standards.

TEG Risk were the Safety Engineering consultants for a new plasterboard plant being built by a North American company in Tauranga, New Zealand. Our role was to ensure a Health & Safety by Design approach was applied prior to the build process and to ensure that the plant was safe and conformed to AS/NZS 4024:2019 throughout the installation. We provided pre-build machine risk assessment and HAZOP studies with the suppliers and our New Zealand client to ensure safeguarding concepts were not only compliant but would leave an acceptable level of residual risk for the New Zealand based owners.

The project was completed during the Covid-19 lockdown with remote meetings conducted online. New designs and safeguarding concepts were identified in these sessions that eliminated some risks and reduced residual risks in other areas – these solutions were then incorporated into the final design before plant construction began.
