Machine Safeguarding Specification
TEG Risk are experts in machine safety and engineering safety, helping make your machinery and your workplace conform to health and safety requirements. Our standards-aligned specifications ensure your machines are safeguarded compliantly and effectively.
In high-risk manufacturing environments, the success of a machine safety project hinges on the quality of its foundation. Having robust, standards-aligned specifications is key to setting up any machine safety project for success and ensures workplace safety.
What is the machine guarding?
Machine guarding is the use of barriers, shields, or devices to protect employees and visiting contractors from moving parts and other hazards on machinery. For new machinery, and existing manufacturing equipment, machine guarding ensures safe operation, reduces accident risks, and supports compliance with safety standards.
Two key documents, critical to machine guarding success, need to be developed in the early stage of a machinery project. Our safety engineers specialise in developing these critical documents to ensure that machine safeguarding solutions are not only compliant but practical, cost effective, and tailored to your manufacturing safety and operational needs.

Scope of Works (SOW)
The SOW defines a detailed set of instructions for mechanical, electrical or automation contractors you may have for a guarding project. The SOW ensures that all parties quote on a compliant system that meets your expectations, removes any ambiguity and judgement and embeds safety expectations directly into contractual obligations.
This clarity helps avoid costly rework, ensures consistency, and supports efficient project delivery.

Safety Requirements Specification (SRS)
At a more detailed level, a SRS defines the safety functions required for machinery, the performance levels they must achieve and how they should be realised.
It provides a clear and structured basis for the automation contractors to design the safety systems to meet regulatory safety standards including the AS /NZS 4024 series.

MinRisk – Machine Risk Assessments (MRA)
Mobile, real-time machine safety risk assessments for the manufacturing industry.
The team at TEG Risk has a deep understanding of machine safety and risk assessment through its consulting. The TEG Risk team created MinRisk to support their in-house consulting team. They now partner with MinRisk to better serve Health and Safety and Engineering teams, in the manufacturing sector – and you can too.

Why Is Machine Safeguarding Important?
Developing these documents at the right stage (before design and procurement of new machinery) ensures that safety is embedded from the outset and not retrofitted as an afterthought - at great cost. It also enables better budgeting, clearer communication with suppliers, and smoother project execution. TEG Risk’s team includes TUV-certified engineers and CPEng-accredited professionals. We bring our deep technical expertise and regulatory knowledge to every specification we produce.
For manufacturers in all sectors, TEG Risk offers a trusted and experienced partner to help define the machine safety requirements that will shape successful, compliant, and risk-minimised machine safety projects.
